EFL CUP: West Ham 2-1 Chelsea: Irons through to EFL Cup quarter-final

West Ham manager Bilic has had his say after crowd trouble has overshadowed victory for his team on Wednesday night.
“I was more concentrated on telling Cresswell to watch the game and not it [violence in stands],” said an irritated Bilic. “Whatever happened we are totally against it as a club, as a team. Unacceptable.”

Well it was too late.
West Ham have survived a spirited end to the match from Chelsea to prevail 2-1 on the night. Bilic’s men head into the quarter-final draw later this evening.

FULL TIME: West Ham 2-1 Chelsea

90+3 mins - GOAL - Cahill

This could be too late but after an almighty goal mouth scramble Gary Cahill turns in Willian’s freekick.

90+1 mins

Finally West Ham relieve the pressure as Zaza’s deft flick sends Payet clear on goal.
However the Hammers playmaker’s rising shot is acrobatically palmed away by Begovic to keep the deficit at two.

89 mins

It’s all one way.
This time Hazard sprints down the left, cuts inside but slips as he’s about to pull the trigger.
Four minutes of added time at the London Stadium.

87 mins

Willian whips in a freekick for the Blues but John Terry’s glancing header doesn’t have enough venom to find the back of the net.

84 mins

AGAIN the West Ham defence is breached as Willian cuts in a sumptuous pass to skim off the turf.
Costa races through, shrugs off Reid’s attention but his rather casual chip lifts over Randolph and goes narrowly wide of the goal.
Time running out for the Blues.

83 mins

Simone Zaza, yet to score a goal for his new employers, is sent on to offer an outlet in attack as he replaces the relentless Antonio.

81 mins

Almost immediately the Chelsea forward line marauds into the West Ham box.
This time it’s Hazard on the right and he pulls the trigger 12 yards out from an acute angle to fire a shot off the post.
That two goal lead is hanging on precariously.

79 mins

It’s back to the walls defending for West Ham.
Chelsea have a succession of crosses cleared by the Hammers before Cahill clatters a low ball along the six yard line.
Randolph reacts well to deflect away the danger.

75 mins

Winston Reid is booked having become embroiled in a titanic tussle for possession with Costa.
The Blues forward latches onto a through ball but Reid is adjudged to have hauled down the Spain international as both players fell to the turf.
Replays showed an outstretched leg from Reid but it seemed harsh on West Ham’s match winner from Saturday.

73 mins

Chance! Costa illustrates exemplary touch to cushion down another long ball. Having escaped the offside trap the striker places the ball on a plate for Willian but the Brazilian scuffs his poked shot wide and across goal.
That was a golden opportunity to launch a comeback here.

70 mins

The raft of substitutions have halted the rhythm of the contest.
Chelsea have their stars out on the pitch now but Bilic’s resolute side appear relaxed and composed with their lead.
A long ball from Chelsea fails to find a single Blue shirt to spark Conte into life. He evidently wants more urgency from his men.

65 mins

It’s fair to say the West Ham fans are pretty happy right now.
Still at least 25 minutes to go in East London.

63 mins

The cavalry are well and truly on for Chelsea now.
Eden Hazard replaces the impressive Chalobah and is immediately hauled down by Noble, then Pedro enters the fray in the place of Aina.
West Ham respond as scorer Fernandes walks off to a rousing reception to be replaced by Sofiane Feghouli

57 mins

What a waste by David Luiz.
Noble’s foul on Oscar earns a free-kick 25 yards out but the Brazilian defender mistimes an audacious chip towards the far post and the chance goes begging despite Costa’s endeavours on the stretch.

54 mins

Conte has seen enough and turns to his bench.
Batshuayi has huffed and puffed but makes way for Costa, who is greeted by a chorus of boos from the Hammers faithful.

52 mins

So can Chelsea find a route back into this EFL last 16 tie?
At the moment they can’t get into the West Ham box with the necessary precision, lofted crosses have been easily cleared.
Down the other end Mark Noble cracks a shot wide for the the hosts.

48 mins - GOAL - Fernandes

Edimilson Fernandes benefits from an explosive West Ham counter attack to double the home side’s lead.
Antonio once again utilises his strength and pace to ping over a ball for Payet.
The Hammers talisman drifts a pass into the path of Fernandes, who collects the ball 20 yards out and his left foot drive launches into the back of the net.
Crisp finish from the Swiss midfielder.

SECOND HALF

Bubbles burst around the London Stadium as a moody Conte leads out his Chelsea players for the second half.
The Hammers keep their visitors waiting but we’re back underway in Stratford.

Bilic time

Here’s a bit of half-time entertainment for the Hammers fans to get stuck into.

HALF TIME

There you have it.
Bilic’s men have been rapid on the counter attack and lead through Kouyate’s magnificent header.

41 mins

The Hammers crack long range efforts towards goal through Obiang and Fernandes but Chelsea’s Begovic keeps the deficit to one with a brace of simple saves.

36 mins

Chelsea can’t deal with Antonio’s pace.
The England international lulls in Terry, who hacks down the Hammers versatility man.
Payet’s resulting delivery is tipped over the bar by Begovic as West Ham continue to press for a second.

34 mins

Kante is everywhere.
This time the pocket rocket midfielder finds Oscar on the left.
A flowing team move draws the West Ham defence across the box but Batshuayi’s eventual effort is easily gathered.
Chelsea are currently being restricted to speculative efforts from far or wide. Impressive defending from the hosts right now.
