That’s it, folks, the champions are off to a winning start.
It involved some fortune: Jesus removing the dangerous out ball when removing Martins from the game. But quality late on from Ronaldo’s free-kick and then through James’ cross and Morata’s header delivered the goods in a cruel lesson for Sporting.

It’s been a horrendous evening for the Portuguese and that, combined with his allegiance to Os Leoes, is evident in his lack of celebration.

Ronaldo should give Real an equaliser as he bursts to the back post and connects with a side-foot that cannons off the post.
It deflects back towarda goal via James’ shot and the offside Morata converts into the empty net before the assistant saves Sporting.
James then digs a fine ball out to the far post and Carvajal drives the ball into the ground and narrowly over the cross bar.
Morata through on goal after James’ fine pass, which the assistant wrongly rules offside.
The former Juventus star is not to know that though and he fluffs his lines.
He should take this on his left, but he runs around it and fails to get a clean connection on it, scooping it into Patricio’s arms. Time running out now...
Lucas darts down the right and cuts it back to the edge of the area for Carvajal.
The right-back spins and volleys narrowly over to the despair of the Bernabeu crowd.
James is brought on as Zidane uses his last substitute, Kroos makes way and the German is whistled. He’s been anonymous throughout.
Morata immediately into the game and throws himself at Carvajal’s cross but Coates outmuscles him.
Sporting on the rocks here and there is no out ball without Martins. Morata then delivers a wicked ball into the near post and Coates has to lunge to clear it.
Casemiro, who is later flagged offside, misses a header from a flick on at the near post. The champions are getting closer.
Bale with an empty gaze from the Real bench. He doesn’t appear to be injured?
Ronaldo is a lucky boy to remain on and Lucas almost finds the Portuguese in on goal but the 31-year-old doesn’t have enough pace to reach it.
Real now committing more bodies into the box and whip deliveries in across the six-yard box. Martins bizarrely comes off for Sporting and Markovic comes on, what is Jorge Jesus thinking?
It’s Bale from the right edge of the penalty area.
Ronaldo steps aside and Bale floats it too high and over the bar.
Replays show that Dost was inches from connecting with Martins’ cross.
Changes for Real: Bale and Benzema for Lucas and Morata.
Sporting should be two up!
Another dangerous chance for Sporting and Martins drives past Marcelo and whips in a delicious cross.
Dost looks to go with he foot instead of heading it into the back of the net. He got it all wrong there, a let-off for Real!
Bale then gets clipped by Zeegelaar and Real have a dangerous free-kick on the edge of the area...
Sporting still prepared to commit bodies forward and search for a second.
Real struggling to clear a corner and William lifts it back in for Cesar, whose header is flashed wide.
Morata is warming up and will come on shortly, but who will come off?
Ronaldo then darts into the Sporting penalty area but Semedo is there with a firm challenge.
Sporting happy to mix it physically and William barges into Modric to send him to the ground, earning him a yellow card.
Meanwhile Jorge Jesus has been sent to the stands after some words with the assistant referee.
Real react brightly and Carvajal is now pushing on like he was in the opening minutes of the game.
His chipped cross is just too heavy for Ronalo, who stretches but can’t get there.
Martins then leads the counter-attack and almost receives a return ball in on goal. Cesar demonstrating the confidence in the Portuguese side with a long shot that Casillas has to watch carefully as it zips across the surface.

We’re back underway and Martins weaves his magic down the right.
A neat one-two brings the ball inside and a bobble sends the ball into the path of Cesar.
He wraps his left boot around the ball and guides it into the bottom left corner. Fabulous goal and it is deserved!
Former Liverpool defender Sebastian Coates went in hard on Gareth Bale and the Welshman is a doubt to return for the second half.
Bale was down for several minutes and picked himself up with a grimace on his face.
Real Madrid’s No.11 finished the half before gingerly walking off clutching his right hip with agony painted all over his face.

That’s it and Real have been pedestrian at times.
Sporting growing in confidence and have boldly brought their defensive line high up the pitch.
Modric was finding Carvajal over the top early on, but now the Spaniard has retreated and Bale is unable to time his runs either.
The Welsh wizard is clutching his side as he heads down the tunnel, will he emerge after the break?
Bale has taken a hit to his back and is down for a while.
He hobbles off and clutches his hip. Ronaldo grasps the ball and fires an ambitious shot from a free-kick wide on the left that sails over the roof of the net.
The Portuguese media are mightily impressed by Os Leoes, they’ve edged it so far.
Coates again causing problems with the long delivery from deep free-kicks.
Casillas comes and fails to get any distance on the punch, the Uruguayan defender lifts it back towards goal, but it’s just too heavy and drifts out.
Real are sleeping right now and struggling to impose themselves on this game.
Adrien then finds himself between the lines and unleashes a clean strike that just doesn’t move enough and is safely taken with both hands by Casilla.
Sporting sending out a warning to Real
Coates causing chaos in the box as Sporting look to launch one from a long throw.
It drops to Carvalho on the edge of the area and he swings a leg at it.
It’s heading towards goal but Varane gets back to make the block.
Now Martins is around the outside of Marcelo and he flashes it across the face of the goal. Agonisingly close to Ruiz getting on the end of it.
Martins switches to the left and links with Ruiz in a neat passage of play.
They find Cesar through the middle, but he turns down the opportunity to shoot from the edge of the ‘D’ and plays the ball back into midfield.
It’s neat and tidy but Jorge Jesus will be willing his side on to take a few more risks once they advance it into the final third.
Sporting foolishly opting to take a corner short despite Bas Dost’s aerial prowess, but the visitors are settling into this nicely.
Ronaldo with his first shot of the night and it’s a ripper from a long way out.
It’s struck well, but never troubling Patricio, who tips it over for a corner just to be safe.
Terrific battle down Sporting’s right as Martins looks to get in behind again.
This time Marcelo recovers and puts a crunching tackle in on the winger.
Zeegelaar makes a good recovery as Modric continues to look to find Carvajal in behind on the overlap.
