Raphael Varane has no regrets about his decision to stay at Real Madrid and is convinced that he will develop better as a result.
The Frenchman ended last season as Los Blancos’ third-choice centre back behind Sergio Ramos and Pepe and as such was linked with a move to Manchester United for a reunion with former manager Jose Mourinho.
Varane, however, is ready to fight for his place at Madrid and has faith in boss Zinedine Zidane to give him a chance. He told AS: “I trust the club and I trust the coach. I have spoken with him a lot and he trusts me, so that is one of the reasons for me to stay.”
Varane added: “I think I have taken a decision which is to stay, it’s the right decision. I am going to continue improving and I want to start this season and for it to be a good one for me, and one at my best level.”
Madrid get their La Liga campaign underway this Sunday with an away trip to Real Sociedad.
