Bastian Schweinsteiger has rejected the offer of regular first-team football at Sporting, informing Manchester United that he intends to remain at Old Trafford regardless of the absence of any playing opportunities - until January.
United were ready to allow Schweinsteiger to join the Lisbon club on a free transfer, and were also prepared to heavily subsidise the Germany international’s salary in the Portuguese league.
The German star has no future at the club under Jose Mourinho and is training with the club’s reserve side, with no hope of first-team football.
