Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is set to raid Juventus for hitman Mario Mandzukic, reports John Richardson. Conte is searching for a striker after failing to land his long-term target Romelu Lukaku, who wants to stay at Everton.
Chelsea had been confident they would clinch Lukaku’s return to boost Conte’s striker options.
But they are now in a desperate race to try and bring in an established striker whose goals can help propel Chelsea into the Premier League title race following last season’s nightmare showing.
Manzukic, 30, has only been with Juve for one season following a surprise £16million move from Atletico Madrid.
The Croatia international would cost around £25million, a third of the fee being talked about to prise Lukaku out of Goodison Park.
