Eagles end 2014 outside of top-40
The Super Eagles have dropped one place in the latest classifications and are now ranked as the ninth best football playing nation in Africa.
Nigeria amassed 656 points in the latest rankings.
Algeria, Tunisia, the Ivory Coast, Senegal, Ghana, Guinea, Cape Verde and Cameroon are the African countries ranked above Nigeria in the latest rankings.
Former national team coach Christian Chukwu was assistant to Dutchman Clemens Westerhof when Nigeria attained their highest ever position in the rankings (fifth) and he described the latest development as “not good enough”.
“Our latest position in the rankings is not good enough, but if we are to be honest the year 2014 was not a good one for the Super Eagles,” he told supersport.com on Thursday.
Germany, Argentina, Colombia, Belgium and the Netherlands are the top five countries, in descending order, in the latest rankings.
